Gangsters and magic. It could have been a good cocktail but the result was a strange mix which was a little disappointing. The final clash of the dom gangsters was rushed and left you feeling the author gave up and wrote "happy ever after" just to get the book into the publishers by the deadline.

Last year I loved the Wilde Stories 2011 anthology, so picking up Wilde Stories 2012: The Year's Best Gay Speculative Fiction edited by Steve Berman was a no brainer for me. The story goes pretty much where you expect it to go. Except for the built in 'cheats'. The plot needs money - provide rich and wacky parents! The sex..... with two people there is usually enough to keep the reader involved. With three, someone keeps on getting in the way! The story is spread over two volumes. Prepare to spend at least two days amidst mediocrity.
