Dr. Stephen Dantzig has become one of the leading experts in the field of developmental educational psychology. He earned his Doctor of Psychology degree from the Rutgers University Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. Stephen augmented the school psychology course work offered through GSAPP with classes on developmental psychology and Piagetian theory offered through the Rutgers University Graduate School and Graduate School of Education. His doctoral dissertation used the Piagetian framework to examine the development of higher-level reasoning skills in students with physical disabilities. Stephen moved to Los Angeles in 1994 and quickly became immersed in the use of The Southern California Ordinal Scales of Development. He was trained by Mrs. Jean Fentiman, one of the co-authors of the Scales. Stephen joined Mrs. Fentiman as a co-trainer of the Ordinal Scales in 1996. In addition to his role as a school psychologist, he performed consultative duties for the Los Angeles County Office of Education, Lake County Special Education Local Planning Area, Antelope Valley Association of School Psychologists, and Pasadena Unified School District. Stephen's experiences going through the public schools as a student with cerebral palsy adds a unique perspective to his training regime. Stephen holds valid School Psychologist certificates in California, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York and was a "Trainer of Trainers" in the Southern California Ordinal Scales of Development. He has also served as an Adjunct Faculty member for two universities in Hawai’i. He now works for the State of Hawai’i Department of Education. Stephen Dantzig is also a nationally renowned lighting expert and owner of the Hawai’i School of Photography with over 40 years experience behind the camera.
