Growing up in Bowling Green, Virginia, Ted Randler went on to study painting and printmaking at Virginia Commonwealth University and later received his Masters in Fine Art from Syracuse University. While in New York, he worked as a cartoonist drawing licensed characters for Sesame Street and as a showroom designer for Ethan Allen. Returning to Virginia, he continued to paint and write while working as a waiter and bartender for several restaurants, before becoming an art director for magazines. After stints in public relations for state government and then economic-development marketing, Randler, launched Greater Richmond Grid, a regional business, arts and entertainment publication.
