Teri Petz

Teri Petz wears many hats and has even more interests. She was fascinated by poetry since she was a little girl, before she could read. In school she realized that writing was easy for her and she had a natural flow when she wrote. Being a nature child (woman) she likes to take long walks and explore the rivers, lakes, mountains and the Canadian Prairies. She is often inspired to write and in those moments and she says the Muse has bitten her.

Teri self published her poetry book, “A Piece Of Her Heart” in 2020. The book is available on Kobo and Amazon. Amazon has both e-book and paper version.

She participates in a small women’s poetry group led by Cat Charissage monthly. Teri organizes and is the MC of Owl Poetry, an open mic event held monthly at the Owl Acoustic Lounge in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.

She is involved in Photography, Videography and creates home décor products to keep the creative juices flowing and loves to write poetry. She considers poetry to be the language of the heart.

Smashwords Interview

Describe who you are in a poem
Who am I?

I’m a woman made up of many pieces,
each creating the unique me.
I’m gentle to everyone and everything alive.
I grow flowers, trees, love and friendships.
I’m a warrior conquering my fears,
an explorer putting a light on the dark side,
breaking through the roadblocks of life.
I have seen cruelty, abuse, poverty
and they all taught me how not to live.
I grow and gather herbs to heal
and make most gifts I give.
When I feel lost on the path of life,
I go to the beach and listen to the waves.
They soothe my heart and soul,
they heal my body from aches and pains
and I can walk again with a smile on my face.
What's the story behind your latest book?
I have been saving my poems electronically since 2000. A few years ago I realized that I have enough for a book and I self published in 2019. It has taken a long time to put them all together and hours after hours of formatting but it was worth it. I felt so accomplished when I hit the publish button. It was a relief, like giving birth to a child and I am convinced that to a writer putting their work out there is like releasing their child. It feels exhilarating and scary at the same time.
Most the time poems just pop into my head. I jokingly say that the Muse is talking to me. There was one night, I sat at the fire in my backyard and wrote 8 poems. I guess you can call that a creative night. Some people are channels for angels, dead people and all kinds of things. I am a channel for poetry.
