Joel Levine was born in Brooklyn New. He attended Syosset High School, SUNY Buffalo '63 and graduated from Harvard Law School '66. After law school he served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Venezuela. He practiced law in New York; Partnered in running a successful law firm in Miami; Was a principal in one of the largest real estate companies in the southeast United States; and was President and CEO of LA based Gibraltar Entertainment, executive producing twelve movies and a television series.
Presently, Joel is a Mediator and Arbitrator based in Miami handling a variety U.S. and international matters. He always had a penchant for writing, but had more of a penchant for supporting his dysfunctional family and had to earn a living at an early age.
When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Mediating, Arbitrating, Swimming, Hiking (if you consider short walks "hiking"), Eating Out and with friends.
Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?
Yes. It was about an ecologist surviving a nuclear holocaust...search for others...and struggle to survive. I wrote it on a broken typewriter (remember those?) where the F was missing the 2 horizontal lines and looked like I s and the T was missing the Crossed Top and looked like I s . The whole thing began to sound narcissistic so I burnt it (and the typewriter).
"The Corruption of Michael Levitt" is a rollicking ride through life seen through the eyes of Michael Levitt--Harvard Law School graduate and survivor of his Long Island childhood. It's a story of a bright but naïve guy who, while trying to make it in this world is, with the best of intentions, gradually corrupted by the universe in which he exists.
