Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born in Miami and raised in Lantana, Florida. Miami for a long time was the biggest city I had visited. Lantana on the other hand was a sleepy little town. Riding my bike to the beach or going mudding with friends as a teenager was just "what you do." Growning up in a safe place with lots of unusual experiences made me want to see more of the world. My moments while traveling, meeting new people and seeing new places gave me stories to write about.
When did you first start writing?
My mother really did give me her journal about 20 years ago. I knew then that I wanted to add to it but I had no clue where to start. Back then, computers were just becoming the norm in homes. It wasn't until after I convinced my husband that we should get one too did I actually start writing. This book has been on everything from floppy disc's to micro SD's. It wasn't until this past year though when a light buld went on and I had an idea about how the story should unfold. After that happened, I've sat at my desk and carried around my tablet, writing during every free moment I could find.
