I bought this book with some trepidation because whilst I love this author's paranormal romances, I am a bit sceptical about historical romances in general. I am so glad I did. I really enjoyed the interplay between the characters, especially the secondary ones, and was interested and intrigued the whole way through. I read this in one sitting, even though it meant a late night (early morning, actually)!

Njal, the male alien Viking lead, is looking for mates for his crew after his planet died and most of their people with it. When he finds out that Earth (Peritan to offworlders) is viable, he heads there, even though they are forbidden. Abducting the first female he finds, he’s determined to work out whether compatibility is as suggested. Steff, the female human lead and abducted female, considers him fortunate that he’s abducted her - an international matching agency staff member and one of the few who know aliens are real. She’s angry with him and just wants to get back to earth. Though the mutual attraction might mean something… This novella is dual POV, well written and edited, and a great start to a new series in the author’s pre-existing world. I have not read anything else in this world and feel that this book sets the scene well - I didn’t feel like I was missing anything, though I may go find those other stories… I enjoyed Steff’s pushback and her unwillingness to submit to Njal’s demands, as well as her empathy when she realised what he wanted and why. I enjoyed Njal’s determination to help his people and was amused by his alpha male stubbornness. This was a fun, sexy read. I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Holly, the female human lead, lost her husband 18 months ago but she’s applied to a matchmaker because she thinks she’s ready for her next life step. Errik, the male alien lead, lost his wife 2 years ago when their planet was destroyed and he’s not ready to move on but his captain has placed his DNA for soulmate matching. Errik and Holly are captivated by each other and feel a real sense of understanding because they’ve been through the same loss but now the intergalactic overseers aren’t pleased with Errik’s people being in contact with humans… This novella is dual POV, well written, and emotionally moving whilst having fun and sexy moments. I empathised with both lead characters and the challenge of living life after partner loss. I enjoyed Holly’s curiosity and was amused by Errik’s instant entrancement with her. I appreciated the effort they put into their relationship and the sacrifices they were willing to make for Errik’s people as a whole. I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
