A great debut by Marilyn McPherson. The story is compelling and moves along at a good pace, with lovely detail about the small town that Lucy comes from. The author has a great way of writing conversation between the protagonists that feels natural and un-forced, providing a lot of insight into the motivations of each character. My only small criticism is that I felt that events in the final part of the book were resolved too quickly and easily, but maybe that was a testament to how much I wanted to carry on spending more time with the characters!
