Smashwords Interview

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in an impoverished small town of Tam Ky, Vietnam. I did not have access to books. Even before I was born, the many books in our family library were sold to help ease living expenses. There was not a local public library to be found. Thus, my only source of literature came from my cousin, who loves to read... comics. While waiting for each new issue to be released, I would write of the adventures my favorite characters might partake. So I would credit my love for writing to the robot cat Doraemon!
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I was an introvert and writing allowed me to escape to another world. Now, crawling out of my turtle shell a bit, I revel in the beauty of language, of how a simple combination of words can portray so much. Writing also serves me well in my career. After all, effective communication is valued in all walks of life.
