Tony Roberts

Biography

Tony Roberts is a man with an unquiet mind who has a way with words. He served for two decades as pastor of churches in Illinois, Pennsylvania, Upstate New York, and Long Island. In 1995, he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after having apocalyptic psychotic delusions. By God’s grace and through much faithful support, he served another dozen years in full-time ministry.

Many people with mental illness are angry at God, at believers in Jesus Christ, and at faith communities. People within churches struggle to understand mental illness in light of Biblical teaching. Tony has lived in both worlds and wrestles daily with the dual identity of being a Christian who has a serious mental illness.

Tony’s mission is to bridge the distance between faith and mental illness — fostering faith among those with disorders and diagnoses and promoting compassion within the faith community. Sharing his spiritual memoir, Delight in Disorder: Ministry, Madness, Mission, is the first step toward this

He is available for interviews and speaking events and can be reached through tony@awaywithwordsforyou.com

Delight in Disorder is the story of one pastor's battle with bipolar disorder. This spiritual memoir is a house of meditations where faith and mental illness co-exist, at times fueling each other to dangerous distortion, at times feeding each other to fruitful gain. It offers hope for those often neglected and shunned. It also fosters compassion for believers towards those with troubled minds.
