Smashwords Interview

When you're not writing, how do you spend your time?
Most of my time is spent working. However I'm looking forward to retiring in the near future and expect to have more time to write.
What is your writing process?
Generally I get an idea and start writing following my nose as it were. After I have some idea of what the story is I start a spreadsheet to hold Character names and a brief description of the character at the start of the story. Often I add tab for the story timeline. Later I refer to these aids to try and ensure that I don't suddenly call Laura-Linda in the story or make similar mistakes. After I get the story pretty well along I edit and edit and edit again to tighten up the story. I try to use the spell checkers to eliminate as many misspellings as I can. The most time in getting a story ready to publish is taken up with editing to tighten up the dialog and grammar; to eliminate misspellings and things that irritate me when I read a story. Warning: I prefer to use thru for through. It's been in the language since about 1875 so it should be good enough to use anywhere, in my humble opinion.
