Having read Chinese at SOAS, in 1979 I started the Travel Bookshop in Notting Hill (the one on which the film was based). I have travelled widely and written about my travels and in 2007 published my autobiography - Halfway to Venus. I am currently working for an exhibition of my paintings - happening in September 2011.
Halfway to Venus is the story of Sarah Anderson’s life with only one arm. It is a journey of exploration and discovery, through literature and art and real life, concerned with finding out about arms and their significance, about other people who have lost their arms and about phantom and prosthetic limbs.
