I am a man in my mid-40's who is finally getting his writing out into the public eye. I'm married to a wonderful woman, and have been for over 19 years. I live in northeastern Tennessee, but was born in Iowa and raised in western New York State. I am a full-fledged science fiction, fantasy, and horror fan...and pretty much an all-around oddball. I hope you enjoy the things I post, and I would appreciate feedback.
When did you first start writing?
I first started writing in grade school, then I did some creative writing in high school and college. I have always wanted to write for a living, but it's taken some time and a lot of life for me to realize what's necessary to do that. I'm in my 40s now, and I just figured that now is the time to start taking my shot. Maybe it'll go somewhere and maybe it won't, but I will have at least made an effort.
What's the story behind your latest book?
The first thing you need to understand is that my discipline as a writer is terrible. I wish I could say that I was exaggerating even a little bit. However, that would not be true at all.
Secondly, I've been mainlining "Twin Peaks" on Hulu lately, which always has an effect on me. Then on top of that, I started listening to the "Night Vale" podcasts...which I recommend for anyone who wants some Lovecraft in their Lake Wobegon. Listening to Night Vale gave me the thought that such a setting could house an excellent writing exercise. The idea behind King's Crossing is to get me to write daily, even if it's just a little bit. With luck, my own little place of strangeness will develop into a unique place from an idea that's been used for a while. (The aforementioned Twin Peaks, Silent Hill, and Trinity are a few examples off the top of my head...and of course there's Castle Rock, but I've made my point.) If nothing else, the town will teach me the act of daily writing.
As I go along, I'll be consolidating older pieces together into decent sized documents...and I might even have the temerity to charge for those collections. Crazy, huh?
Before you is a collection of journal entries coming from a place known as King's Crossing. Wherever this place is, the town doesn't sound like your average locale. Should you find yourself in this place, remember to listen to the Council and don't go out at night.
