Victor Koman

Biography

Victor Koman, Ph.D. — a native Californian — is the author of several books, including the underground classic millennial-noir novel The Jehovah Contract and the medical thriller Solomon’s Knife. Both novels won the Prometheus Award in their respective years and are available in trade paperback and ePub editions.

Ray Bradbury said of Koman’s first novel, “The Jehovah Contract has a fascinating concept, imaginatively delivered,” and of Koman, “Would that there were a dozen more writers like him in the field.” Koman’s screenplay of the novel has been optioned for film several times.

Koman’s short stories have appeared in such publications as The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, Galaxy, and the anthologies Weird Menace, The King is Dead: Tales of Elvis Post-Mortem, the second and third Dark Destiny collections, and Free Space.

The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction called his unprecedented third Prometheus Award-winning novel, Kings of the High Frontier, “an intriguing, exhilarating, thought-provoking and, yes, sprawling novel that brings back the sense of wonder that drew so many of us into science-fiction in the first place.” The novel was the first e-book published exclusively on the Internet to win a major literary award: the Prometheus.

A community activist with a quixotic sense of what’s important, Koman was instrumental in preventing the destruction of Disneyland’s last bubble-topped Mark III monorail (“Old Red”), generating a one-man public-relations campaign that resulted in nationwide news coverage. The Walt Disney Company subsequently saved, restored, and converted the historic monorail fuselage into a street-legal promotional vehicle, The Mouseorail. Sadly, the monorail fuselage was later cut in half and used as a display in Disneyland’s Rocket Rods ride, and subsequently destroyed after the ride’s trouble-plagued run.

Dr. Koman has also appeared as an extra in several films, including Star Trek — The Motion Picture, CyberZone, Rapid Assault, Fugitive Rage, Mom’s Outta Sight, Billy Frankenstein, KidWitch (in which his daughter, Vanessa, played the title role), Red Dragon, The Hot Chick, and A-List. In 1998, he appeared on the game show InQUIZition.

For over 16 years, Dr. Koman worked as a web application developer for Boeing Space & Defense Systems in areas as diverse as Engineering, Delta Program Communications, Policies & Procedures, Security & Fire Prevention, Export Control, and C-17. He designed databases and ColdFusion web interfaces used to this day throughout the company. A member of the National Management Association, he was the NMA 2009 Member of the Year.

Dr. Koman graduated with honors, summa cum laude, from Redlands University in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems. He received his MBA in 2004 from Pepperdine University. In 2016, Capella University conferred upon Dr. Koman his Ph.D. in Information Technology with a specialization in Information Assurance and Security.

He lives in southern California with his wife, Veronica, and their cats. His blog and backlist of books are accessible at komansense.com
