Teri Meehan is co-owner and primary founder of Wash Perk Coffee House in Denver, Colo. A graduate of Villanova University School of Nursing, she was an oncology nurse and massage therapist until age 41. It was then that she happened upon a space for rent in her neighborhood that seemed like it should be a comfortable place with great coffee. She still owns Wash Perk with her partner, Debbi Main, and continues “post-graduate” work in living her own life.
A story that opens with an unexpected basement flood foreshadows the deep emotional tides the author will wade through as she navigates the rough waters of opening and managing a neighborhood coffee shop. Although the shop is successful by all accounts to an observer, its owner encounters demons when she can't run away from the unpredictability of the family system of small-business interactions.
