Rufus Wood

I am from the south side of chicago and I became interested in writing at the age of eight. I saw a lot of violence and crime growing up in the rough Englewood area. The things I saw made me want to write it down, and from then on a writer was born. Over time my writing has become much broader. Not only do I write urban fiction now, I also wwrite sci-Fi, espionage, and action. After I graduated highschool in 2000 I joined the U.S. Army. The Army not only taught me discipline, but taught me to work hard at what I really wanted. I also got a chance to travel the world while in the Army. I saw some countries that I wanted to see and a few others that I may have not wanted to see. I did two tours in the Middle East during the war campaigns, before finishing my enlistment. I then became a correctional officer at a Texas State Penal institution. I did that for almost two years, then I came back to Chicago in 2008 to use my Illinois veterans Grant for free school. I am currently a Communications, Media, and Theatre major at Northeastern Illinois university in Chicago.
