I'm not much of a person for Steampunk novels, and not generally interested in Victorian England, but I do like some alternate history and figured this might be worth a read.
It was... big time.
I got engrossed in the book and stayed up late into the night reading it. The characters are well fleshed out, the story line engrossing, and the imagination Heather shows in the creation of her alternative history are all refreshing and delightfully enjoyable. She reinvents the Frankenstein story with all the old meanings of the original story with new layers of what or who the "monsters" really are. And she does it with a blend of characters you come to care for, and a setting that paints a vivid what-if picture of an Industrial-age London run amok.
I would buy this book in Hardcover. But as it is available as a $.99 download for Kindle (and other electronic formats), you should definitely check this out.
