This is a very fast-moving short story with lots of action and unexpected changes, some written from the point of view of different characters. That's a clever idea. The jump in scene between the first and second chapters arouses the reader's curiosity, a good device. I enjoyed the story but would have liked it to be longer. There is a lot of action compressed into a short space, which is good but you do need to understand a bit more about the characters. At times it was a bit too fast moving for my preference! Also it would be good to know a bit more about a character before jumping to their point of view. Overall a great story which is too compressed I think into the short-story format, but still very enjoyable. Really hoping for more from this writer, especially if they do a full-length novel.

I really enjoyed the other Weiss book, but this one blew me away. A totally original way to start a mystery story - I just had to keep turning the pages! Holly Harlow is a really believable character full of streetwise personality and sharp humour. The plot moves quickly but each scene and character is so well described that you feel you know them. The sense of mystery keeps growing, each discovery adds new clues but throws up new questions. Then there is a sudden twist and you see the whole thing in a completely different light. A genuine surprise ending - fantastic.

Finally got round to reading this new book by Weiss. What an original premise for a murder mystery! The writing is flowing, the action is non-stop and the mystery builds all the time until the very last pages. As with the other books, the ending is a genuine startling surprise. The book also appears incredibly thoroughly researched, but the period details are cleverly used to add to the atmosphere and action, they never get in the way of the fast-moving plot. This book defines the phrase 'page-turner'.
