Smashwords Interview

Describe your desk
My desk is cluttered, perhaps because it holds a computer, screen, printer, speakeers and some boxes of projects in progress. It's too small for all this stuff, and I find myself repeatedly pushing movable things like the screen and printer back against the wall and stacking the speakers on top of other stuff. The drawers are a mess as well.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was born and grew up in Los Angeles. Though my parents were from the middle of America, my siblings and I became absolutely complete Southern Californians. To me, part of that means having a very weak "internal censor". The result is that I say things that people from the Midwest, where I now reside in retirement, wouldn't let pass their lips, and I publish things that call attention to myself. I like to tell people that I was born about 8 miles east of Hollywood, and spent the years from age 8 through 17 about 20 miles west of there.

Series

Singing With and Singing From
Martin Luther is quoted as having said, "He who sings prays twice." Martin spoke long ago. In the 21st century we'd be a bit more sensitive to gender issues, and probably say something more like, "when you sing, you pray." The series, "Singing With and Singing From" attempts to provide ways to sing the scriptures to tunes old and new. The first set consists of 42 reworded settings of the Lord's Prayer, with hyperlinks to the tunes so that users can sing along. Subsequent collections will include "Singing with the Hebrew Bible", "Singing with the Hebrew Prophets", "Singing from the Psalms", "Singing with the Gospel Writers", "Singing from the Epistles", "Service Music for Congregations and Choirs", and "Singing from Taiwan".
