Smashwords Interview

Describe your desk
I live in California, where the high property values mean that small houses are the norm. I don't have an office or a desk. I work at my dining room table, which currently contains the following: educational placemats, my laptop, my purse, my child's homework folder, my child's pencil case, a Buzz Lightyear cup, my water glass, a smartphone, yesterday's mail, the local newspaper, and two tablets. I promise you that my books are much better organized than my work space is!
What is your writing process?
I tend to do a lot of daydreaming before I put hands to keyboard. I usually begin with an idea for a primary character. Then I mentally sketch out the most important secondary characters and where I want the story to end up. I do some light outlining, but I tend to stray as I go along. My work grows fairly organically. I also tend to revise as I go, tightening and fixing things. I give myself plenty of time to revise and tweak at the end, based on feedback form beta readers.

  • Rannigan's Redemption Part 1: Resisting Risk on Dec. 08, 2015

The first volume of a trilogy, this novel focuses on a newly minted lawyer named Maggie and her boss, Michael Rannigan. Rannigan is something of a player and doesn't know quite what to make of just how much he likes Maggie. This book is excellent. I don't even really like romance novels all that much, but this one is really well-done. The writing is clean, and the characters are vibrant and interesting. The sex is explicit and super hot, fyi, and the emotions are strong. Spocks definitely knows how to bring the spice and tug on the heartstrings at the same time. I love how confident, competent, and honest Maggie is, and I enjoy Michael's sweet side that only Maggie seems to bring out in him. The ending definitely leaves me anxious for the next installment.
