anway mukhopadhyay is an MA in English. his academic books have been published in Germany by renowned international academic publishers. his creative writing has been published in prestigious journals in India and the USA. he loves listening to Tagore songs and watching good movies. he is specially interested in writing poetry and short stories, and tries to bridge the gap between the East and the West by linking Indian sensibilities to Western frames of thought in his fiction and critical writing. he spends time in three Indian cities : Varanasi, one of the oldest cities of the world, Kolkata, one of the newest, and Bardhaman, a place that falls between the oldest and newest ones.

What are your five favorite books, and why?
simone de beauvoir's "america day by day", for its honesty, Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha, for its serenity and broad metaphysical vision, Rabindranath Tagore's play, Raja, for its lofty spiritual vision, menis koumandareas's Koula, for its brevity and precise style, and finally War and Peace of Tolstoy, because of its greatness.
What do you read for pleasure?
not exactly for pleasure, but for satisfaction. spiritual books, and Shirshendu Mukherjee's novels for kids. mukherjee writes in Bengali, my vernacular.
