Melanie Stinson

Melanie fell into a swimming pool at age four, sank to the bottom and saw Jesus. She believes that started her very strange life. Or maybe not. It may have been the Easter chick Pio Pio that grew to be a rooster, crowed at 6 a.m. daily until it got moved to the egg man's farm where it picked on the chickens and followed the humans because it obviously thought it was human.

An author, artist, dance analyst, screenwriter, alternative healing professional, and former creative arts and ballet teacher, Melanie has always been able to talk to children. She believes her fondness for stones and fairies helps a great deal.

Melanie started writing as a child. She wrote so many poems and short stories in high school that she was allowed into a college creative writing class where she met her first man in a cape.

In 2003, after years of writing and editing newsletters and interviewing dance artists including those from one of her favorite companies, New York City Ballet, Melanie learned to write for children and in 2003, Highlights for Children published one of her favorite stories, Weirdest of All. From there, she went on to publish a book of dance poems and The Middle Princess. Other books and stories will be forthcoming.
