Arch Montgomery lives with his wife, Phyllis, and sons, Greg and Tyler, in Asheville, North Carolina, where he is the Head of Asheville School. His background includes a stint in the United States Army in Alaska, a brief career practicing law in Baltimore, Maryland, and extensive experience as a teacher, coach, and administrator--from St. George's School in Newport, Rhode Island to Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland, to Asheville School in Asheville, North Carolina.

His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Pennsylvania, a certificate of completion from the Army's Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California in Russian, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Texas School of Law.
