I enjoyed this book. KA Tucker’s debut novel has a little bit of everything in it- urban fantasy, dystopia, young romance and vampires.
The story centers on Evangeline, a lonely girl. On the eve of her eighteenth birthday, she meets Sophie and her whole world is turned upside down. Suddenly, she is the center of attention among Sophie and her friends. But behind this overfriendly and extremely generous friendship is a dark secret that Evangeline is front and center. She has no choice but to participate in the path chosen for her.
I loved the growing relationships between Evangeline, Caden, Amelie, Fiona, Bishop, Sophie and Max. One of my favorite scenes (no spoilers) is when Evangeline believes she is still dreaming about this second world and goes on the great rant about her new friends. Her description of Caden and Rachel was priceless and I found myself giggling out loud.
KA tucker has written a unique story that weaves in two very different worlds. I liked how the story unfolded. It kept me engaged and guessing on who I should trust and what that character’s real interest in Evangeline was. I was surprised how well she brought the story together and then left it wide open for the next book. Overall, I liked the book and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something different. I would encourage you to take a chance on this story, I am glad that I did.
