Alyson E. Stiega

Alyson Stiega was born and raised in Hamlin, New York, a suburb of Rochester. She started writing when she was very young with her vivid imagination. She began writing "Apollo’s Gypsy" around 1988 after she had a dream one night of being given a tour of a house in Cornwall, England. She wrote down all of the details of the house, and the rest of the story began to flow from her fingertips. She completed the book in a few short years but never wanted to publish the book because, since it was her first full novel, it was like her first baby and she wasn’t ready to let it go. But now, in 2013, she has finally decided her “baby” is ready for the rest of the world.

Smashwords Interview

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
When I was a little girl, my mother and I would read The Golden Book series together. I remember "The Sword and the Stone" the most. It is probably why I am such a fan of Arthurian legend to this day.
How do you approach cover design?
When I am writing my story, I have vivid pictures in my mind so when I go to my artist, I already have a vague idea what I am looking for. When I present her with my idea, I tell her what the story is about, tell her what the age of my audience is, what type of book it is, and she gives me several drafts from that. Then I choose one draft and we tweak it from there.
