J.S. Wayne

Born in Amarillo, Texas, Jericho “J.S.” Wayne has lived, worked, and traveled in approximately three quarters of the North American continent, amassing a résumé which could kindly be described as “eclectic” along the way. Currently he lives in Portland, Oregon and feels no particular urge to be anywhere else.

An author in multiple genres, a misanthropic humanitarian and cynical optimist, J.S. spends most of his time when not writing erotic romance turning words into money as a website designer, SEO/SEM consultant and article and blog writer, filling the balance of his hours as a polyamorous kink practitioner and educator. He is fascinated by the use of language, human sexuality, occultism, quantum physics and trying to figure out just what the hell the lyrics to "I Am The Walrus" actually mean. He enjoys receiving mail and comments from his fans, and invites you to follow him on Twitter or simply email him at jerichoswayne@gmail.com!

Smashwords Interview

What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I love exploring the world through different eyes. Different cultures, genders, ethnicities, orientations and species all fascinate me. There's a unique set of challenges which comes from stepping outside one's own experiences and trying to imagine and understand the world as someone else might see it. Those challenges come with unique rewards in terms of creating a story which is well-told and true to someone's experience out there, maybe not in terms of factual events, but the gestalt emotional milieu in which they move. It's always thrilling when I receive an email or a message that says, in essence, "Someone who's not ME finally gets it!" That tells me I'm doing my job and writing at the peak of my game, and it always inspires and motivates me to do even better next time.
What do your fans mean to you?
My fans are EVERYTHING!

Without my fans and readers, I'm just one more guy playing with imaginary friends on a computer, making up random shit to scream into the void. Every time someone buys my books, leaves a review or takes the time to tell me how much they enjoyed my work, it's a huge boost to me, because it tells me someone saw value in what I do. Many of my readers are also friends, and I try very hard to balance the demands of my personal and working life with making sure I make time for my fans.

Because without my fans, there's no ME.

I first came to know of C.J. Douglass' work through Twitter, and was sufficiently intrigued by the premise of this story to want to give it a go. As a short, hot erotica which hints at a great deal more depravity to come (pun very much intended), this is a good story to read with a lover as foreplay or for sounding them out on possible taboo roleplay scenarios. Overall, it's very well written and focuses heavily on the pleasure of the heroine. My only real qualm with this story is the sometimes uneven way in which the Victorian English is conveyed. The heroine goes from very upper-crust blushing virginal sensibility to gutter language in a way which feels a bit forced. However, that doesn't really detract from the heat of the story or the sense of being in her head, merely a personal observation on my part. Overall, if you've got a dollar burning a hole in your pocket and a yen for some decent Victorian vampire erotica a la Dracula, you could do a lot worse than give C.J. Douglass a try! 4*
