Karen Tribby

Karen Tribby has been married to her husband, Greg, for the past 25 years. They have six grown children and are expecting their 4th grandchild.
Karen has lived a difficult life. She grew up in a very abusive home and suffers from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In her early 30's, Karen began reliving her childhood abuse and turned to substance abuse. In a rage, she robbed many Arizona banks and spent 9 1/2 years in and out of correctional institutions. In 2006, she was raped and stabbed by a random stranger which left her unable to use her right hand...her writing hand.
Today, Karen has turned her life around and is studying to become a substance abuse counselor and peer support specialist. She has written a memoir about her life entitled SATAN'S PUPPET and a book of poetry that was written during her years in prison. She is currently working on her next series of books involving the world of drugs, addicts and recovery.

Smashwords Interview

What do you read for pleasure?
I have an awesome admiration for memoirs. I love to read about real life events and real people who have endured and overcome. It is how I best connect with other people no matter where they are. I find strength in stories in which the person it is written about has overcome, it provides hope and inspiration, two things I believe we as human beings can never get enough of.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
Yes. After "Where The Wild Things Are", I grew into "Are You There God? It's me Margaret", by Judy Blume. I still remember the shock value of the words written in that book because for the times it was a bit risky. Unfortunately, I could understand it and the words written allowed me an ability to relate to it, as if Judy Blume and I shared secrets together. I suppose in a sense it allowed me a way of releasing the secrets that I was forced to keep at such a young age. Thank You Judy!

A part of me will forever be seven years old. That voiceless, innocent child that just wanted to be loved. I am stronger now, but not much. It seems that not killing me really didn't do me much good. Yet, today I hope to discover the words to purge my soul of the emotional poison embedded deep down inside of me. Could that be possible? I will let you know at the end of my story.
