RJ Price lives in Canada where she works and writes full time. When not doing either of those things she attempts to navigate social media and resists the urge to return to writing.
She has published novels in the fantasy genre and insists she is also a science fiction author, but has been too caught up in her Seat of Magic series to actually complete a science fiction novel for publishing.
Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I grew up in Canada. I was born on one side of the country, raised on the other. and lived in a total of four provinces so far. I suppose because of how much we moved when I was younger, you might say I supplemented steady friendships with imagination.
Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first book I recall reading on my own was The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch. It is still one of my all time favourite books, there's no way I could say that it hasn't affected my writing.
A war is in the planning stages, but collecting men to fill the army will take time. While they wait, Aren and Av travel North to do a calling. Jer travels south to investigate Bilgern Vineyard. They're about to discover that magic is more complicated than they first thought.
Court has resumed, the barons arrive as they promised and the high lords attend for Aren’s mating ceremony. Everyone is focused on the new queen and her different behaviour. They know Mirmae’s words, but none of them take the time to ask what will happen when her son takes the seat beside the queen she chose as her successor.
Before she died Mirmae Hue sent six letters. One to each of the barons and two to those on palace lands. The letters were part of a whole that only made as much sense as Mirmae meant them to make. Her warning, however, has been spoken by her family for years.
To those without faith, it would seem madness.
If only those at court could decipher the message without the other pieces.
Aren wants what she's never had: control, freedom, and peace. The first step was to get away from her parents, the second was to go unnoticed at court. After that she had no plan, intending to make it up as she went. She should have planned better.
