Belinda Bennett

Belinda Bennett started writing fiction at primary school. Always passionate about creative writing, her talents were diverted to journalism in her late teens after both her parents died.

Belinda lived and breathed newspapers 24/7 for 32 years. She covered everything from murders to parish council meetings, and was notorious for eating all the sandwiches at the monthly chamber of commerce gatherings in her home town of Honiton, Devon. Newspapers were her world - until it dawned on her that the industry she loved was in terminal decline.

She always thought she would be the last rat to abandon the sinking ship but, in the end, walked the plank before she was pushed.

A fierce supporter of the underdog, hence a Corbyn-ite, she is a political activist and supports causes that help the homeless and those whose lives have been blighted by addiction.

Belinda is a freelance copywriter and lives by the sea on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, England.

Smashwords Interview

Why do you mostly write short reads?
I love a good story but, like many other people, am daunted by books that run to hundreds of pages. I write for people like me, who want a high quality read in a bite-sized chunk. I cater for my audience by offering great, modern reads for less than the cost of a magazine. Most of my books average 18,000 to 20,000 words, although one is 45,000 words and another just 4,000 words.
What are you currently writing?
Inspired by a real 14th Century chapel, I am currently working on a short story about a woman on a journey of self-discovery. She has never been married, doesn't have children and is desperate to find Mr Right. A trip to a lofty landmark, built by monks as a retreat, finds her stranded in the company of a stranger. After a promising encounter, things go downhill - badly.
