Bertha Cooper Harris

Bertha Cooper Harris is a southern folk artist and writer living in Shreveport, Louisiana. She paints on wood, cardboard, canvas, specialty items of interest, and found objects. Acrylic paint, drawing materials, and latex house paint are found in most of her art. Typically her inspiration is her childhood environment, time spent growing up on two plantations, and the chores associated with rural Louisiana life.

Harris began painting after developing fabric art for more than a decade. Her style is completely self-taught. Bertha’s work is a story with historical context for future generations. She honors those who have gone before her and represents the continuing struggle we face to improve our world.
