Publisher info

Beverley Eikli is the author of eight historical romances published by Pan Macmillan Momentum, Robert Hale, Ellora's Cave and Total-e-Bound. Recently she won UK Women's Fiction publisher Choc-Lit's Search for an Australian Star competition with her suspenseful, Regency espionage Romance The Reluctant Bride.

She's been shortlisted twice for a Romance Readers of Australia Award in the Favourite Historical category — in 2011 for  A Little Deception, and in 2012 for her racy Regency Romp, Rake's Honour, written under her Beverley Oakley pseudonym.

Beverley wrote her first romance when she was seventeen. However, drowning the heroine on the last page was, she discovered, not in the spirit of the genre so her romance-writing career ground to a halt and she became a journalist.

After throwing in her job on South Australia's metropolitan daily The Advertiser to manage a luxury safari lodge in the Okavango Delta, in Botswana, Beverley discovered a new world of romance and adventure in a thatched cottage in the middle of a mopane forest with the handsome Norwegian bush pilot she met around a camp fire.

Eighteen years later, after exploring the world in the back of Cessna 404s and CASA 212s as an airborne geophysical survey operator during low-level sorties over the French Guyanese jungle and Greenland's ice cap, Beverley is back in Australia teaching in the Department of Professional Writing & Editing at Victoria University, as well as teaching Short Courses for the Centre of Adult Education and Macedon Ranges Further Education.

Her racy, Regency romp (erotic Regency Romantic Comedy) Rake's Honour has just earned a RomCon Readers' Award. Six randomly assigned judges awarded it at least 8 out of 10 over 120 questions. Rake's Honour was also shortlisted for an Australian Romance Reader's Award in 2012.

When Lila reluctantly gets caught up with a group of unusual teenagers in her new town she discovers all is not as it seems. The 'in' group who are encouraging her to join their ranks have a hidden agenda and Lila is both drawn to them at the same time as her instincts are warning her off. I loved this story with its skilful blending of wanting to be accepted at the same time as wanting to be true to oneself. There's a deep emotional connection between Lila and those who've earned her loyalty and a satisfying, well-rounded conflict when Lila's divided loyalties pit her against other-worldly elements that threaten everything she holds dear. Wolf Sirens features a cast of well drawn, memorable characters - including a very unusual (no spoilers here so you have to read it to see what I mean!) and very compelling hero - and I think many of us would see elements of our teenage selves in the multi-faceted Lila. The end is nail-biting and I can't wait to read the sequel.

I loved the characters in this story and the skilful way the author brings Ro, the heroine, to life in such a deeply empathetic way. Ro is a misfit in her rural Australian town with her abilities to see the dead. When she moves to Sydney and finds herself among kindred spirits, she discovers real friendship at the same time as she is caught up in a deep, compelling mystery. The conflicting loyalties she faces makes this a real page-turner. I'm a recent convert to the Young Adult genre and this is one I'd recommend to both teenagers and adults alike. A deeply engrossing story about witchcraft, friendship and a perilous decision to be made overlaid with a wonderful romance.
