William Doan

I hold a BA from Gannon University, an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Ph.D. from Case Western Reserve University. I co-authored Prophets, Performance and Power, published in 2005, and Twice Used Songs: Performance Criticism of the Songs of Ancient Israel in 2008, with Terry Giles. I was fortunate to be chosen the 2010 artist in residence with my play, Bud’s Last Prayer, at the Mizzou New Play Series and am developing a new solo/poetry performance titled Not Self Inflicted. I'm also working on a community based theatre project funded by the National Science Foundation centered on the risks and rewards associated with Marcellus Shale gas development in Pennsylvania and on a new book project archiving and documenting the work of Bill Irwin. In 2011 I published a chapbook of poems with Corrupt Press titled orantes linguis. I am a professor in the School of Theatre at Penn State, living happily in central Pa. with my wife Bonnie and our daughter Samantha.
