Michelle Brumley

Biography

Michelle Brumley is a freelance writer who migrates between Montana, Idaho and Washington. Currently she’s hibernating in Spokane Valley, Washington for the summer. She’s an avid gamer, Doctor Who fan, a comic book geek – and chases pop culture conventions across the Inland Northwest. She’s fueled by Mio-enhanced water, cheap coffee, cats (and funny cat pictures), and British television. She writes genre fiction, dabbling in themes of dark fantasy and young adult zombie slapstick epics. She actively and furiously participates in National Novel Writing Month every November.

True story. She also makes amateur photography and is the sole proprietor of the local business Distracted Dragon. She makes custom pin-back buttons, key chains, magnets, magnetic key chains and 3.5″ drink coasters. Support a local artist who is not yet starving! www.distracteddragon.com

Michelle is a full time student at North Idaho College in slow pursuit of an Associates Degree in General Studies. If she doesn’t give up after failing another Science or Math class, her plan is to transfer to Eastern Washington University to tackle a degree in Creative Writing.

Despite intense efforts, she has actually published two short stories and an excerpt and won two awards which hang by her desk (shamelessly):

First Place Winner for a Short Story from Spokane’s Science Fiction and Fantasy Convention in 2010 for her short story The Burning City.

The Burning City appears in “And Then What Happened? Volume I” in an anthology published by the Spokane River Writers in 2012.

Hope in the Darkness appears in the 30th issue of North Idaho College’s literary magazine Trestle Creek Review published in May 2016.

There are Roots appears in the 31st issue of North Idaho College’s literary magazine Trestle Creek Review published in May 2017.

Winner of the Lori Wallin Award for Outstanding Creative Writer for the 2016-2017 year presented by North Idaho College.
