I really enjoyed this book. With the flood of YA fiction on the market these past few years I'm always looking for something contemporary but without the usual romantic formula most seem to follow. This book fit the bill perfectly. I also appreciate that it features a romantic relationship between two girls, which i feel is still lacking quite a bit in the genre. The characters are really well drawn and honest, easy to connect to and engage with, and I felt they had a rawness to them that I really loved. The sense of place was fantastic. You drew a vivid picture for readers that really helped ground the story even more. I loved the relationships in the friendship group and how they developed. I feel like a lot of stories lack well developed secondary characters, whereas yours were fully realised and felt authentic and it just enriches the story so much. It's so easy for authors to write two dimensional cliche characters just to help facilitate the plot but yours really enhanced the story wonderfully. The way you've interwoven religion was fantastic as well, not heavy handed, (the word that comes to mind is graceful), and important as it's a very real issue in many people's lives. I respect authors who aren't afraid to explore these issues. Most importantly, I really appreciated that this story was about these characters struggling with who they think they are and who they want to be and who the world wants them to be and it wasn't just about a romance, and not just about the growth of the teenage characters either. Such a rich story dealing with important issues, but you don't feel like you're getting hit over the head with a sledgehammer. So yeah, I loved this story. I love how layered and subtle and graceful and emotional and honest it is. Thanks for sharing your story with the world!
