Alison Insco

Biography

Alison is a stay at home mom in Alberta, Canada to her two children who are rapidly approaching the young adult stage, much to her chagrin. Her ever-faithful writing companion is Sadie, a beautiful cat with the saddest eyes you’ll ever see. Alison enjoys teasing the cat, writing (of course), and hanging out with her kids. She began writing at a young age, starting with short stories, moving on to poetry, and eventually ending up participating in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) and completing her first novel. Since then, she has produced several manuscripts of novel-length. When she grows up, Alison hopes to be an expert in the field of fairy security. Her advice for writers, young and old, is to be brave in their work and never give up.

Smashwords Interview

When did you first start writing?
As far as I can remember, I started writing in the third grade. I was given an assignment to write a short book, complete with a wallpaper and cardboard cover. I wrote about the town I had just moved from, and about my experiences with moving. My teacher raved about my story, and invited me to read it to the school via the PA system in the office. From that point on, I wanted to be a writer when I grew up.
What motivated you to become an indie author?
I am inherently terrible at selling myself. I could never come up with a decent query letter that left me feeling confident enough to send it to a traditional publisher. As a result, I started looking into self-publishing, and eventually took the leap.
