Siegfried Eckleben

I was born in Weimar, Germany on Labor Day, May 1st, 1944. (It started with labor and I've been laboring ever since). We fled the Russian Zone of post war Germany in 1949 and emigrated to what is now Namibia. I grew up and attended school in what was then South West Africa. Later I studied electrical engineering at the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
Having lived and worked as an engineer in Southern Africa, North and South America, Australia and Europe, I retired to Namibia – with another residence on one of the Azores Islands in the North Atlantic.
The enigma of the endless universe and concepts such as eternal and infinity awed and intrigued me since childhood and eventually drove me to write the first part of my book. The peculiarities of humans that I was confronted with during my lifetime motivated me to write the second part.
I speak five languages and have written articles in English, German and Portuguese...

Smashwords Interview

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
My father was born in South West Africa during German colonial times, my siblings were born in SWA, but before the Second World War my family moved to Germany for economic reasons. So I was born in Weimar/Germany, as a war product, but grew up in what was then South West Africa and studied engineering in South Africa. The clear night skies in the dry season awed me and drew my attention irresistibly towards the stars, the universe, the mystery of it all.
When did you first start writing?
At about age 15 I tried to write articles for a youth newspaper - unsuccessfully!
