Carol Collins

Biography

Writing has always been my obsession and my joy. From the age of ten, I was writing short books, based on favourite TV characters. In my twenties, spare time in my job enabled me to write my first ‘proper’ novel, and I was fortunate enough to have it accepted by the very first publisher I approached. There followed a series of nine present day romances, all published by a top London publisher.
Love may be at the centre of them, but I have always tried to incorporate something more…a touch of mystery, discovery or as in several novels, more than a hint of danger. As well as being sold in bookshops etc., all of these nine books have been borrowed nationwide from libraries.
My husband and myself live in a village situated in the National Forest, Leicestershire. Until recently, we lived in the beautiful Cotswolds, and that area has figured in several of the books. I have two children who are both happily married, and two grandchildren, and continue to write at every available opportunity.

Smashwords Interview

Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I was raised in Gloucestershire, on the southernmost tip of the Cotswolds, and the beauty of the area did influence my writing - in fact, my first published novel 'Almost A Stranger' was partly set there.
When did you first start writing?
I was just ten when I wrote my first story. Because I suffered from ill health as a child, I had always loved reading, as it was the best thing to do when confined to bed. A TV programme which I had enjoyed inspired me to use the characters to create my own story, but I quickly progressed to creating my own characters.
