My name is Cate Sutherland (actually it's Catherine, but no-one has called me that for years). I am married with four children. Writing has been a passion of mine since I was ten years old and it has always been my ambition to be a successful author.
Many people wonder how I manage to write, keep house, and look after four children. The answer is to neglect the house keeping. This still doesn't leave much time for writing, so most of my recent work has been on short stories, written in bursts of inspiration.
My novel In The Shadow Of The Hills was written over a ten-year period, very part time. I have written many short stories (not all science fiction) and am working on my next novel.
I have completed a short course in creative writing at the University of Auckland. In 1999 I was short listed in the 'Ripping Good Read' competition, for my story 'The Gift.' Which is nice, but does not fulfill that deep, innermost desire to finally get paid for my work. I have had a couple of articles published in the "Baptist" Magazine, and a short story 'The Holding Force' was published in the American science fiction magazine 'GateWay S-F' and will be published in my new collection of short storeis soon.
I really could not have achieved anything without the support and love of my husband Dean.
