Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
I don't remember the first story, but the earliest book I remember reading was a large, illustrated book of fairy tales (I still have it!). The stories were greatly condensed, but retained the important elements. I am sure it was a huge inspiration for my love of fairy tales in particular, and fantasy stories in general.

Dr. Seuss, Roald Dahl, Astrid Lindgren, Madeleine L'Engle, Lemony Snicket, Anne McCaffrey, Lois Lowry, Jane Yolen, Diane Duane, Diana Wynne Jones, Gail Carson Levine.
