I love fantasy books and the longer the better. I almost always read an entire book. This book is one of the rare exceptions - I can not continue reading it. I plowed through Amanda's solo adventures and actually enjoyed that section of the book. Finally, about half way into the book, Amanda encounters beings that she can interact with in a meaningful way - not life and death gory battles. Instead of rich conversation about the new world that Amanda is in, the dialogue quickly becomes a history lesson and rather shallow condemnation of human conduct on earth. A couple of pages of such dialogue would be okay and get the point across. After more that 10 pages with no end in sight, I can't stomach any more.
