What motivated you to become an indie author?
I’ve always loved to tell stories. When I was a kid a couple friends and I would sit on the front porch of my home and make up stories. In my teens I started writing our ideas down, and when my friends went off to find their own lives, I kept writing.
I wrote my first book in 1999, and I decided to go the indy route because I like being in control. In 1999, self-publishing was expensive. We’re talking hundreds of dollars just to see your book printed. It wasn’t until the onset of print on demand and Ebooks that all that changed. So essentially I had to wait for technology to catch up with me so I could tell the kind of stories that aren’t considered mainstream.
What is the greatest joy of writing for you?
I like adventure stories. I like to read adventure stories, so I write them. The greatest joy is just setting in front of my laptop and seeing where my characters take me. I love it when I’m surprised at the outcome, and I think my readers are too.
