I'm a sucker (see what I did there?) for a good cockroach tale...memories of "They Nest", "Creepshow" and Roger Corman's "The Nest" all hold places in my heart.
Add a splash of Lovecraft and I'm in heaven. This relatively short tale takes elements from both and adroitly mixes them up with a smattering to genuinely pleasing "red-neck" humour. I read it in minutes but some of the imagery still lingers, a real sense of dread colours this nicely layered story and the end ing is not one I expected being somehow more subtle (if a tale of giant cockroach Gods can be subtle.
Highly recommended and works perfectly on my Kindle.
