Charles Moore

Always working on the "next" novel. I am always reading and writing and trying new ideas. Sometimes one idea lasts a little longer than the previous.

Smashwords Interview

What's coming along in the pipeline?
A current mystery/detective fiction novel (full-length!) seems to have finally decided to become comatose. I am starting another detective fiction work that involves the abortion debate, gold, and modern secrets. Should be something in there worth writing about. I like social issues in my stories rather than just the regular clue-violence stuff. More towards Raymond Chandler than James Patterson.

Also, started another science-fiction work set in the far future in a world very different from ours. More like Pratt's Trials. We'll see!
When did you first start writing?
This writing business really is a young person's game. The time spent and the energy to keep going is an awful strain. Although, having said that, I enjoy observing people and thinking about the human condition. Like Raymond Chandler, my detectives are supposed to be more observers than catalysts. It's not that they don't get involved, but I wanted the story to talk about something besides them!

Now that I am fully retired with a few novels under my belt, starting a new one has become harder. I don't know why. Age helps with creating a certain writing style but also makes that style suspect to influences. But time runs along a little too quickly. I was trying to figure out how many years ago I started working on encyclopedic and graduate school work and it feels like more than 20 years ago.

One help has been doing a blog page. I generally regard the "working on something" kind of answer as meaning piddling along. Time at the keyboard is like practicing the piano, it has to happen and it has too happen a little bit every day.
