Where did you grow up, and how did this influence your writing?
I spent the first ten years of my childhood in the UK, then moved to South Africa. At first, I struggled to adapt but found lasting friendships through the performing arts. In the 'Howard and Thandi' series, I wanted to show two very different children who discover a deep and lasting friendship through their mutual love of the arts.
What's the story behind your latest book?
In this second book in the 'Howard and Thandi series', Thandi learns a valuable lesson about performing. It isn't easy to sing when you're feeling sad or disappointed, but Thandi learns to rise above her feelings and give in to the joy of singing.
There's also a fun lesson about diversity.
