This is a very entertaining selection of blog posts about living in France. There's a mixture of articles about everyday life for an ex-pat family, also French history and traditions, and local events. Nice photos and lots of humour.
Ellie Orchard (her mum spelt Orchid wrong on the birth certificate) Lee is ready to face the world again after a bad break-up and then a stint of nursing her convalescing gran, her only relative, who lives in France. Encouraged by Gran and her best friend Shelley, Ellie heads off to a Halloween Fancy Dress party, seriously overdressed as a werewolf. Halloween sluts are the order of the day. Short story shorter, she persuades a handsome vampire to dance with her and once she's pulled off her mask and he's taken his fangs out, things get a little out of hand. A fight breaking out gives Ellie the chance to get a grip and escape with her dignity, but only just!
Confident she'll never see the mysterious vampire again she throws herself into preparing for the Halloween Fete Shelley is helping to organise. However, first dressed as a misinterpreted black widow spider and then a witch in a skirt with inadequately strong waist elastic, she has two more cringeworthy encounters with the vampire, who turns out to be a gendarme.
Will she ever make the right impression on him?
This is a witty, entertaining, quirky Halloween story, perfect holiday chick lit. Ellie is a great character, and we cringe along with her when things just won't go as intended. If you're ever put your foot in it, then you can totally sympathise with her. Well worth a read.
