“Atlas, Broken” by Jeremy Tyrrell is the literal and figurative depiction of a man stuck in the normalcy that becomes the bane of his existence. Henry Ludlow is not just having a bad day; he’s having a bad life. With a domineering boss at work and an overbearing wife at home, Henry is the picture perfect portrayal of a man who slowly and painfully breaks apart in front of everyone else. It’s downright depressing and makes you look into your own life and wonder if it mirror’s Henry’s pathetic life (and hope to god it doesn’t!). What’s even more sad is that even when Henry falls to pieces, he gets the same crappy treatment from everyone else. Makes you feel sorry for the person that he becomes. This is a well-written story that uses graphical depiction of situations to emphasize the underlying message. There’s shock and disbelief, then a realization of how cleverly plotted the whole story is. It’s a quick read, but not short on entertainment.
