Carole Marie Shelton has been telling stories since she was five years old, with encouragement from her mama, who clack-clacked the keys of an old typewriter in the late ’70s to document her tales. At age eight, she was thrilled when her Christmas story was published in the local newspaper.
Many years later, as a mother, Carole Marie struggled to find children’s fiction that would support her family’s homeschooling lifestyle, their beliefs, as well as topics they were studying. This prompted the beginning of her novel writing frenzy—jumping back and forth between various story ideas. But when her young cousin moved in for emergency foster care, his strong desire to return to his mom provided inspiration for the writing of Cosmic Chaos. Three years later, the manuscript was a finalist in the children’s category of the 2013 Cascade Writing Awards.
Carole Marie enjoys weaving suspense and action into her children’s stories while exploring the longings of the heart. She squeezes in writing time between work hours and caring for her four children, ages 6 to 16. They live in a charming historic town in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, where they go on hiking escapades, read books, and dream about the places they’d like to travel to someday.
