David Cousland

Biography

Born in the industrial Midlands in 1950, I was educated at Dudley Grammar School (to the best of their abilities)before going on to work in the banking industry. The latter years working on plastic card payment schemes. Married (twice) with two daughters and three grand-children, my hobbies outside of the family and writing include golf and travel, occasionally combining the two when searching for golf balls that have strayed way off line. Although I have no musical ability whatsoever, I do love listening to music be it live or recorded. Highlights- seeing Cher in Las Vegas; Stevie Wonder in Brisbane and meeting Rick Wakeman.

Smashwords Interview

Do you remember the first story you ever read, and the impact it had on you?
The first book I ever had was "South with Scott" - the story of Robert Falcon Scott's attempt to be the first to reach the South Pole. I've had the book over 50 years and it still holds pride of place on my bookshelf. I think that is probably the reason I enjoy reading Biographies / Autobiographies (some at least).
How do you approach cover design?
Originally I used an agent, but with more recent e-books I've enjoyed trying to create my own with more than a little help from friends / family plus an occasional model. It has to be cost effective. The cover is the first selling point, has to be attractive, eye-catching and reflect a part of the story.
