How do you approach cover design?
I often outsource this, I have a theme or idea in mind but I do let a lot of creative input come from people more artistic than me. Often it is friends, my publisher or wife that help with the final details.
A cover is often a hard thing for me to get too involved in I find. Usually I am still trying to clear my mind from writing or editing the book or story and it's easier to let others help.
I am thankful we use some great artists.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
It is hard to put my five favourite books and even harder to put them in any order. Here as someone who writes I often feel as though I should put five great literary works, instead I am going to be honest and put 5 I really enjoyed.
As a young kid I enjoyed the Dragon Lance novels. Especially the first three. Dragons of Autumn Twilight, Dragons of Winter Night and Dragons of Spring Dawning. As a young boy at school I loved these books, they were great entertainment and not as hard going as some other heavier fantasy books.
I also enjoyed The Seventh Swordsman series, not as well known but beautify written by Dave Duncan. A great twist on fantasy and so refreshing. Three great books that everyone I know who has read them has loved them.
The Horus Heresy, a couple of bad books in what is otherwise a ground breaking long set of books (and growing). They really bring the Sci-Fi element of Warhammer 40,000 alive and in an adult and mature way.
For me these are three sets of books that I have really enjoyed as they have given me a great break from reality.
A troubled couple come to terms with tragic events of the past. With their wedding anniversary approaching the hope is a much needed break will help heal and improve the fortunes of Emma Morton and her husband Andrew as they both seek a return to normality.
Sometimes though, the past doesn't won't let go.
