David Middleton

I'm a freelance travel writer based in rural Wales and have contributed to many national and international publications including The World Travel Guide, Independent Traveller, Daily Mail, Metro, easyJet Magazine, ABTA.

I enjoy walking in the great outdoors which I have right here on my doorstep. I have also been inspired by so many beautiful places on my travels including New Zealand's West Coast and Mount Cook on South Island, Maine, New England and Vermont, Bermuda and Southern France to name just a few.

Ursula Minor was inspired by my trips to Vermont and in a lot of ways New Zealand with their breathtaking wilderness areas. My second novel, which I'm currently working on is called The Decades. This is set in France in the fifteenth century and the present day and I have travelled extensively in the Ardeche for inspiration.

Smashwords Interview

How do you approach cover design?
Putting it bluntly the cover for me is the carrot before the horse. I like a strong visual with pointers as to what the reader can expect inside.
What are your five favorite books, and why?
That's a tough one but those that come to mind are the one's I've read recently.
Savage Garden, Mark Mills
The Book Thief, Marcus Zusak
The Lovely Bones, Alice Sebold
The Alchemist, Paulo Coelho
Fatherland, Robert Harris
I like being taken on unexpected journeys and introduced to characters I can empathise with. Stories with a strong sense of place are my favourite.
